Industrial Context & Market Demand in Peru

Adapting advanced adsorption technology to Peru's core economic sectors.

Mining & Metallurgy: The Heart of the Peruvian Economy

Peru is globally recognized as a mining powerhouse, ranking among the top producers of copper, gold, zinc, and silver. In metallurgical smelting and refining plants scattered across the Andes, high-purity oxygen is a critical utility. Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) oxygen generators are widely used to generate oxygen on-site. The efficiency of these PSA plants relies heavily on high-performance lithium-based molecular sieves (ZMS). Our molecular sieve adsorbents provide exceptional nitrogen capacity and high selectivity, enabling mining operations to achieve a steady, cost-effective flow of oxygen.

Additionally, moisture control is crucial in mineral laboratories and storage facilities to prevent the degradation of valuable assay samples and chemical reagents. Our specialized desiccants protect sensitive instruments from the harsh, high-altitude humidity shifts common in regions like Cajamarca, Ancash, and Arequipa.

Key Application: Natural Gas Dehydration

The Camisea Gas Project in Cusco requires deep dehydration of natural gas before pipeline transport. Molecular sieves act as the primary defense against hydrate formation and pipeline corrosion, ensuring safe transit across the Andes to liquefaction terminals on the Pacific coast.

Natural Gas Processing & Petrochemicals

Natural gas extracted from remote Peruvian fields contains significant amounts of water vapor, carbon dioxide, and sulfur compounds. If not dried to extremely low dew points (typically below -100°C), water can react with hydrocarbons to form solid gas hydrates, clogging pipelines and damaging cryogenic liquefaction systems. Molecular sieve 4A and 13X are the industry standards for this demanding process. They selectively remove water and hydrogen sulfide without altering the hydrocarbon composition, ensuring compliance with international transportation and environmental standards.

Biofuels & Ethanol Dehydration

Peru’s commitment to renewable energy has spurred the growth of the bioethanol industry, particularly in the northern valleys of Piura. To blend ethanol with gasoline, water content must be reduced to less than 0.5% by volume. Standard distillation cannot break the water-ethanol azeotrope. Molecular sieve 3A is the definitive solution for this application. With a pore size of 3 Ångstroms, it selectively adsorbs water molecules (2.8 Å) while completely excluding larger ethanol molecules (4.4 Å), delivering fuel-grade anhydrous ethanol with high thermal efficiency.

How Molecular Sieve Adsorbents Work

Understanding the science of selective adsorption and pore size optimization.

Molecular sieves are crystalline, synthetic aluminosilicates (zeolites) featuring a highly uniform, three-dimensional network of pores and cavities. This structure allows them to separate molecules based on their effective molecular diameters and polarities. Unlike silica gel or activated alumina, which rely on non-specific physical absorption, molecular sieves offer precise, molecular-scale filtration.

Type 3A (Pore size ~3Å)

Mainly used for dehydrating unsaturated hydrocarbons, cracked gas, and polar liquids like ethanol. It prevents the co-adsorption of larger organic compounds, optimizing dehydration cycles.

Type 4A (Pore size ~4Å)

The standard choice for static dehydration in closed gas or liquid systems. Widely used in packaging, air compressor drying systems, and general industrial moisture control.

Type 5A (Pore size ~5Å)

Ideal for separating normal paraffins from branched and cyclic hydrocarbons. Also key in Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) systems for high-purity hydrogen generation.

Type 13X (Pore size ~10Å)

Features the largest pore opening, making it perfect for removing CO2 and H2O from air prior to cryogenic separation, and sweetening natural gas by removing mercaptans.

Industry Trends & Future Outlook in South America

The transition toward energy efficiency, carbon capture, and green industrial processes.

As Peru aligns its national industrial strategies with global environmental targets, the demand for advanced, eco-friendly chemical products is rising. Modern manufacturing facilities in Lima, Callao, and Trujillo are shifting toward automated, low-energy adsorption processes. This shift requires molecular sieves that operate with higher dynamic adsorption capacities and lower regeneration temperatures, directly reducing the carbon footprint of industrial plants.

Furthermore, the global transition toward hydrogen energy and carbon capture has sparked interest in Peru's scientific and industrial communities. Zeolites and carbon molecular sieves (CMS) are at the forefront of these green technologies. High-performance CMS, such as the JZ-CMS series, are vital for high-efficiency nitrogen generation via PSA, which is widely utilized for inerting pipelines, food packaging, and preventing spontaneous combustion in coal mines.
