Applications and Technological Advancements of Molecular Sieves in Petroleum Refining

Molecular sieves play a vital role in petroleum refining due to their unique properties such as shape-selective catalysis, high surface area, uniform pore structures, and tunable acidity. They are widely used in key refining processes including fluid catalytic cracking (FCC), hydrocracking, isomerization, and aromatics transformation. These applications have a direct impact on both the economic performance and environmental compliance of refineries.

For instance, Y-type molecular sieves are essential components in the FCC process, where they catalyze the cracking of heavy feedstocks (such as vacuum gas oil) into high-value light products like gasoline, diesel, and olefins. In addition to catalytic applications, JOOZEO molecular sieves are extensively used in environmental fields such as fuel desulfurization and VOC adsorption, helping refineries meet increasingly stringent emission standards.

Molecular sieves serve both catalytic and separation functions in petroleum refining. With the development of new molecular sieve materials, their applications are expanding into areas such as residue upgrading, low-carbon olefin production, and green refining. This trend supports the industry’s move toward high efficiency, low carbon emissions, and high value-added products.
