Molecular Sieve Applications in Desulfurization and Industrial Flue Gas Treatment

JOOZEO’s specialized desulfurization molecular sieves offer high dynamic adsorption capacity and uniform pore size distribution (e.g., 3A, 4A, 5A, 13X). By adjusting pore sizes (ranging from 0.3–1.0 nm), these sieves can selectively adsorb small sulfur-containing molecules (e.g., H₂S with a kinetic diameter of ~0.36 nm, mercaptans ~0.5 nm) while excluding larger interfering molecules. Cations within the molecular sieve framework (such as Na⁺ and Ca²⁺) form strong interactions with the lone pair electrons of sulfur compounds, enhancing the adsorption of polar molecules such as SO₂. Some modified molecular sieves (e.g., Cu/Zn-exchanged ZSM-5) can catalytically convert H₂S into elemental sulfur or oxidize mercaptans into disulfides.

Application Scenarios:
1. Natural Gas and Biogas Purification: 4A or 13X molecular sieves can deeply remove H₂S (to below 1 ppm), preventing pipeline corrosion and catalyst poisoning.
2. Desulfurization of Liquid Fuels & Oil Refining: Y-type molecular sieves loaded with metals (e.g., Ni/Zn) can adsorb thiophenes, enabling the production of ultra-low sulfur diesel (sulfur content <10 ppm).
3. Industrial Flue Gas Treatment – SO₂ Capture: Modified 13X molecular sieves preferentially adsorb SO₂ from flue gas, especially under low-temperature conditions, with adsorption capacities exceeding 100 mg/g.
4. VOCs Co-Treatment: Effective in removing both sulfur compounds and organic sulfur species (e.g., dimethyl sulfide).

Continual innovation in molecular sieve desulfurization technology is enabling its expansion from traditional chemical sectors into strategic areas such as new energy and carbon neutrality. There remains significant potential for development in intelligent and green applications.
