Activated alumina is a specially processed aluminum oxide material produced from aluminum hydroxideAl(OH)3 or boehmite. It is non-toxic, odorless, and tasteless, appearing as white granular particles.Activated alumina has multiple crystalline phases such as α, γ, θ, and η, among which γ-alumina is the most commonly used in adsorption and catalytic applications.
It is insoluble in water and common organic solvents, and it features high chemical purity, strong adsorption capacity, fast liquid permeability, easy regeneration, and long service life.In air, activated alumina exhibits excellent moisture affinity. After absorbing water, its physical structure remains unchanged and can be fully regenerated by heating at around 110°C.
Because activated alumina has a strong attraction to water molecules, it is widely used as a deep-drying adsorbent for removing trace moisture. It is commonly used as a filler in adsorption dryers. Under proper operating conditions, activated alumina can reduce the moisture content to achieve a dew point of –70°C or lower.
For example, the JZ-K series activated alumina produced by Shanghai Joozeo offers significantly enhanced performance.
The K2 grade has an adsorption capacity more than 30% higher than standard products, and under suitable conditions, the dew point can reach below –80°C. Because of its high performance and cost-effectiveness, it has become a preferred material for many imported and energy-efficient dryer models.
If you would like to learn more about selecting the right activated alumina for a specific type of adsorption dryer, Shanghai Joozeo can provide detailed technical guidance and tailored recommendations.
